Community:
Hill City School District serves the central region of the Black Hills and we are located ten miles from Mount Rushmore. Hill City is known for being the "Heart of the Hills" and is home to just under 1000 residents. Economically, Hill City is dominated by Tourism and the Timber Industry. Students attending Hill City School District can come from as far away as Keystone, Deerfield, and the Pactola Lake area on Highway 385.
School:
The Hill City Elementary serves students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Each grade level has two sections with very favorable student to teacher ratios! We have a standards based report card to demonstrate content mastery. We use data to drive our instruction and that data is gathered from the NWEA assessment.
The Hill City Elementary School was built in 1960 and has serviced grade school students since. The commons area was originally the lunch room. In 1988, a new cafeteria was built (connected to the middle school). In 2009, the Gins Gym was constructed and it is used for PE class. Other recent projects that benefit the elementary include a new roof and artificial turn to the playground in 2017.
