Greetings Ranger Families,

It is hard to believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner! It feels like we were just welcoming everyone back at our open house!

Please remember that Thanksgiving break is November 26–28. I hope you can enjoy this time with friends and family, making memories and reflecting on all we have to be thankful for.

December is always a fast and fun month at school amidst all the learning. During the week of December 8th, students will take the mid-year NWEA assessment, which they also took at the beginning of the year. These results help teachers identify growth areas as well as any skills that may need extra support. Student reports will be sent home once testing is complete.

For our After School Academies, we are excited to offer something new! We are partnering with Compass to bring a hands-on STEAM Academy to our students.

• Grades 1–2: December 15th, 3:00–5:00 PM
• Grades 3–5: February 11^th, 3:00-5:00 PM

Compass will provide robots, materials, and interactive STEAM stations. If your 1st or 2nd grader would like to attend, please return the permission slip by December 8th. A separate permission slip will be sent home for grades 3–5 as we get closer to February.  If you would like to learn more about Compass, please visit https://compass.bhssc.org/ .

Our 5th graders will host their annual Christmas Around the World event on December 17th from 1:00–3:00 PM in the Gins Gym. This is always a wonderful showcase of the students’ research and creativity. Families are welcome to attend!

The Lost and Found is overflowing. Please feel free to stop by the elementary commons and take a look.  With colder weather arriving this week, we ask that students come to school dressed warmly. We will go outside for recess unless the actual or “feels like” temperature is 0°F or below. When the temperature does fall to zero, we will have inside recess in the Gins Gym.

Our Christmas Music Program will take place on December 22nd at 6:00 PM, also in the Gins Gym. The music booster club will put on a free-will donation bake sale in the gym lobby. We will also be selling $20 discount cards that will include great deals at local and chain businesses in the area. All proceeds will support the elementary music, choir, and band programs in Hill City. If you’ve never attended our Christmas concert before, you are in for a treat—our students look fantastic in their holiday best!

We are also collecting donations for our school-wide Christmas Tree Gingerbread Decorating activity on December 16th at 2:00 PM. Students in kindergarten through 5th grade will decorate ice cream cones to create festive Christmas trees. If you are able to donate items such as ice cream cones, frosting, sprinkles, or small candies, please drop them off at the elementary office. This tradition is always a highlight for our students and parents are welcome to join us!

To add to the fun, we will have two holiday dress-up days:

• Monday, December 22nd – Flannel Day
• Tuesday, December 23rd – Pajama Day

On December 23rd at 9:00 AM, the entire elementary school will gather in the theater to enjoy a G-rated movie together.  After last recess on December 23^rd, students will have their classroom Christmas parties.

Christmas Break runs from December 24th through January 4th. We hope your family enjoys a restful and joy-filled holiday break!

• January 13th: PIPTO Meeting at 3:10 PM (Elementary Commons)
• January 19th: No School – MLK Day
• January 30th: Family Fun Night – Art Theme (more information to come!)

¡Cuesta creer que el Día de Acción de Gracias esté a la vuelta de la esquina! Parece que estábamos dando la bienvenida a todos en nuestra jornada de puertas abiertas, y la emoción de los estudiantes por la escuela no ha disminuido ni un poco.

Por favor, recuerda que las vacaciones de Acción de Gracias son del 26 al 28 de noviembre. Espero que puedas disfrutar de este tiempo con amigos y familia, creando recuerdos y reflexionando sobre todo por lo que podemos estar agradecidos.

Diciembre siempre es un mes rápido y divertido en el colegio. Durante la semana del 8 de diciembre, los estudiantes realizarán la evaluación NWEA de mitad de curso, que también realizaron al inicio del curso. Estos resultados ayudan a los profesores a identificar áreas de crecimiento, así como cualquier habilidad que pueda necesitar apoyo adicional. Los informes de los estudiantes se enviarán a casa una vez terminadas las pruebas.

Para nuestras Academias Extraescolares, ¡estamos emocionados de ofrecer algo nuevo! Estamos colaborando con Compass para ofrecer una Academia STEAM práctica a nuestros estudiantes.

• Cursos 1–2: 15 de diciembre, 3:00–5:00
• 3º a 5º curso: 11 de febrero, 3:00-5:00

Compass proporcionará robots, materiales y estaciones STEAM interactivas. Si tu hijo de 1º o 2º de Primaria desea asistir, por favor devuelva el permiso antes del 8 de diciembre. Nuestros alumnos de 5º de primaria organizarán su evento anual Christmas Around the World el 17 de diciembre de 1:00 a 3:00 en el gimnasio Gins. Siempre es una magnífica muestra de la investigación y creatividad de los estudiantes. ¡Las familias son bienvenidas!

Nuestro Programa de Música Navidad tendrá lugar el 22 de diciembre a las 6:00, también en el gimnasio Gins. Volveremos a organizar una venta de pasteles antes y después del concierto, y el Club de Apoyo Musical venderá tarjetas de descuento por 20 dólares. Estas tarjetas incluyen ahorros en negocios locales. Si nunca has asistido a nuestro concierto navideño, te espera un capricho: ¡nuestros estudiantes lucen fantásticos con sus mejores fiestas!

También estamos recogiendo donativos para nuestra actividad escolar de decoración de jengibre del árbol de Navidad que tendrá lugar el 16 de diciembre a las 2:00. Los alumnos de kínder a 5º decorarán cucuruchos de helado para crear árboles de Navidad festivos. Si puedes donar artículos como cucuruchos de helado, glaseado, chispas o caramelos pequeños, por favor déjalos en la oficina de primaria. ¡Esta tradición siempre es un punto destacado para nuestros estudiantes!

Para añadir más diversión, tendremos dos días de disfraces navideños:

• Lunes, 22 de diciembre – Día de la Franela
• Martes, 23 de diciembre – Día del pijama

El 23 de diciembre a las 9:00 de la mañana, toda la escuela primaria se reunirá en el teatro para disfrutar juntos de una película para todos los demás.  Después del último recreo, los estudiantes celebrarán sus fiestas de Navidad en el aula.

Las vacaciones de Navidad van del 24 de diciembre al 4 de enero. ¡Esperamos que tu familia disfrute de unas vacaciones tranquilas y llenas de alegría!

• 5 de enero: Comienza el segundo semestre
• 13 de enero: Reunión de PIPTO a las 3:10 (Commons de Primaria)
• 19 de enero: No clases – Día de MLK

Al entramos en esta época ajetreada y festiva del año, quiero dar las gracias por su apoyo y colaboración continuos. Nuestros estudiantes prosperan gracias a la comunidad fuerte y solidaria que tenemos aquí en Hill City Elementary.
