all right guys come back today number of really bad video lessons with Mr chase you know today we're going to be learning about these is for everyone who's subordinating conjunction really big words have to deal with these down here complex senses that's what we learned about yesterday and if you guys remember correctly an independent clause plus a dependent clause equals a complex sentence remember the independent clause is the part of the sentence that can be a sentence all by itself it doesn't need anything else but then the dependent clause is the part of the sentence that needs that independent clause if we take away the dependent clause we do not have a correct or we take independent clause vs dependent clause doesn't work it doesn't make sense it's things like although it rained outside okay it's a really big fancy words or phrase for saying the word that combines these two things it's the word that combined are independent and are dependent clauses so if I were to put it in grammar math equation I know that's really weird combining math and grammar since same but we only do it here in mr. Chase's class things never been done before math and reading their together okay but the subordinating conjunctions are this part right here are the plus sign their what combined the independent and the dependent clause so in a complex sentence we have will say I went outside even though it is cold I went outside even though it is cold is our complex sentence okay so are dependent clause is going to be the part of the sentence that can go by itself it's a sentence on its own we can take it off so that's going to be I went outside because if we take I went outside and say that by itself without this last part make sense as a sentence so that means our independent clause is going to be even though it is cold okay because if I said even though it's cold it's a mistake I just make sense that's not a sin so when we look for our subordinating conjunction that is the word that combines the sentence that's the word that moved the idea to inspect thing so here are our coordinating conjunctions going to be even though okay that's going to be our subordinating in SC for subordinating conjunction K because those are the words that combine our first idea and our second what's our first idea I went outside what is our second idea it is cold so I went outside even though dependent clause it is cold I know it's difficult stuff and crazy stuff to think about and learning it like this screen just listen to me talk probably isn't the most fun we'd be doing a lot more fun things in the classroom but it's how we got to do it I'm going to write another sentence on here and I want you to think through as we do this if you can figure it out before I tell you what each part is okay I'm going to put alright so our next complex sense and always has really long quiet time there but our next complex sentence is this I like school because of the students which part of our sentence here is going to be our independent clause the part of the sentence that can be a sentence if you take out the rest of it well if we look at our sentence I like school because cuz of the students I will see I will see that I like school if I say that by itself it makes sense so that would be our independent clause or I see I see I see what I see are independent clause okay so I independent clause because of the students are what good job it's are dependent clause or a DC in that means without that without this front part that last part doesn't send Skype well it would be because I like school all the students why do I like school because of the students that's what combined are two sentences there okay with subordinating conjunctions they are the words that combine our independent clause to our dependent clause and take them put them together now the tricky part is what if the dependent clause comes first like in a sentence like this man do I need to get a beer whiteboard in all though it snowed right there that's going to be a dependent clause so that means it is still nice outside is going to be our independent clause because that's the one that I could say by itself and it still be a sentence okay now which word in here I know it can be really tough but it's actually this right here Canby although I know it's weird it doesn't seem like it's in between but it's the reason that we can say this front part and then it still makes sense because it snowed it is still nice outside now I could switch that I can put it in the independent clause up front and say it is still nice out although it's no K sometimes figured out because even though I'm going to see if I can find some more in my handy dandy book here it's like because yeah things like because even though although though them okay but it's one ever you can kind of have I do like that and sometimes you can have in Boston or add someone to those are words that combine complex sentences or compound sentences we can also use those as subordinating conjunctions the word that is combining the two sentences are the two ideas in our complex sentence each this way until 9 this way but if you have any questions or anything let me know do Tuesday's page in your reading packet that I printed off for you do that today there should be a section on spelling and Robious section on subordinating conjunction let me know if you have any questions email me remember you can you always use your email to contact me or anything like that or send me anything feel free to do that or use Class Dojo or use the cell phone number that I can call send that letter that I first sent out okay and remember all of this is going to be on my web page where you found this video so let me know if there's any questions or anyting good luck guys and I'll be back later
